On Sunday, December 8 2024, Cartrack’s Recovery Team was on patrol in Katlehong when they encountered a vehicle that raised some concerns. They followed the vehicle, but when the driver noticed them, he accelerated, prompting a brief chase. The vehicle came to a standstill at a dead end in Palmridge. It was safely recovered, and a signal-jamming device was found inside.
Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was fitted with cloned number plates and belonged to a delivery company in Cape Town. Our control room team confirmed that the tracking unit did not belong to Cartrack, but to another vehicle tracking company. It was later determined that the vehicle had been hijacked in Tembisa. The vehicle owner was contacted, and the vehicle was handed over to Edenpark SAPS.
On Saturday, January 11th 2025, the Cartrack Recovery Team was on patrol in Soweto when they noticed tyre marks going into a property, raising some concerns. They entered the property and saw a vehicle with a signal-jamming device in the back.
After checking the vehicle registration, it was discovered that the vehicle belonged to a Cartrack client but had not yet been reported stolen. One suspect, found hiding under a bed, was apprehended.
