Cartrack Cheetahs Sponsorship

Cartrack Cheetahs Sponsorship

Cartrack is a proud co-sponsor of the Toyota Cheetahs rugby team, a partnership that commenced in 2014, and one which is still going strong.

Since the inception of the sponsorship, the Cartrack brand has been branded on the Toyota Cheetahs’ official playing kit in Super Rugby, the Currie Cup, the Vodacom Cup, the Supersport Rugby Challenge, and most recently, in the 2018 Guiness Pro 14.

Additionally, Cartrack branding has also been widely represented in the 48,000 capacity Free State Rugby Stadium in Bloemfontein, which is the home ground of the renowned Toyota Free State Cheetahs.  Cartrack celebrated along with the Cheetahs when they won the Currie Cup in 2016 and achieved an unbeaten season, which was a first for the Cheetahs in their illustrious history.

Cartrack has reaped numerous rewards from its mutually beneficial partnership with the Cheetahs, including receiving exposure to a high-level professional rugby team that is prominent in both the local and international rugby fraternity, and being associated with a team that plays an exciting and attractive brand of rugby. The Cheetahs’ team ethos of teamwork, tenacity, strength and innovation perfectly mirrors Catrack’s commitment to these principles.

History of The Cheetahs

The Cheetahs were originally established in 1895 as The Orange Free State Rugby Union. Since being formed, the Cheetahs have always punched above their weight compared to other unions with larger financial resources.

The team made its first Currie Cup final in 1973 and won their first title in 1976. It has subsequently won the Currie Cup on four more occasions. In 1997, The Cheetahs debuted in the Super 12 before merging with the Lions and playing as The Cats until 2005. In 2006, The Cats disbanded and The Cheetahs played as a single entity again in the revamped Super 14. The Cheetahs left Super Rugby at the end of the 2017 season to play in the Pro 14 (previously the Pro 12), which is played between Irish, Scottish, Welsh and South African club and provincial sides.

The Cheetahs made history when they qualified for the Super Rugby playoffs for the first time in 2013 and recently qualified for the Pro 14 playoffs in their debut year in the competition.
